TVU Transcriber requires a TVU server with Linux v7.7 software and a subscription to the feature.

To verify the receiver software version, log in to the receiver. The software version is identified under TVU Receiver in the top left panel in the Receiver Web UI.

Logging in to the TVU Server software remotely

To log in to the TVU Server Web UI, have your server static IP address available and complete the following steps:

  1. Open a Web browser window and enter:

Enabling the TVU Transcriber feature

Enabling TVU Transcriber is a two step process. The Feature Control menu allows an operator to enable the TVU Transcriber option. The Server software must be restarted before the feature is activated and can be configured.

To enable TVU Transcriber, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Settings menu and select Feature Control.

  1. To enable the feature, move the TVU Transcriber switch to the right until it turns green. Click the Apply and restart Later or Apply and Restart Now button. Then, close the window.

  1. To edit the Transcriber settings, click the Enable TVU Transcriber check box in the Transcriber Setting window.

  1. Use the drop-down menus in the Transcriber Settings dialog to select your desired output options. The option descriptions are as follows:
  • Transcriber: There are two Transcriber settings to choose from, Auto Sensing and On.
    • Auto Sensing: When the Transcriber is set to “Auto Sensing”, the system auto-detects whether closed captions exist in the video. If closed captions are detected, Transcriber will not overwrite active closed captioning in the video. Transcriber adds closed captioning to the output stream if closed captions are not detected.
    • On: When the Transcriber is set to “On”, the Transcriber adds closed captioning, which automatically overwrites any existing closed captioning content in the video.
  • Transcriber Delay: This setting allows the operator to give the AI engine additional time to process sentence context for improved accuracy (up to 20 seconds).
  • Video: Click the Video drop-down menu to select a video synchronization method to use with Transcriber. Setting selections are In sync with Transcriber, Delay, or Real-time.
  • Language Selection: Select a closed-captioning language from the drop-down menu.
  • Display Lines: Select a live closed-caption display mode of 1, 2, or 3 closed-caption text lines from this drop-down menu.
  • Character per Line: Select 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, or 40 characters per line to display.
  • Caption Type: Choose the appropriate closed-caption transmission type. Menu selections are as follows:
    • CC708
    • CC608(ANC)
    • OP-47 (RDD-08)
  • Caption font family:
    • Default
    • Monospaced with serifs
    • Proportionally spaced with serifs
    • Monospaced with serifs
    • Proportionally spaced without serifs

  • Save SRT files: The user can define a download location for closed caption files in SRT format. To enter a new file path in this field, click the field and enter the file path for the SRT file.

  • Enable word replacement: The Enable word replacement checkbox allows the operator to allow predefine words to automatically mute from a live stream. Click the Manage link to open the Word Replacement window.

Enter the original and replaced words into the text fields and click Apply.

  • Speaker recognition: Supports recognition of the English language when this feature is enabled.
  • Scheduled time management: Use the Manage link menu to schedule a time and date range to activate the TVU Transcriber settings. Then, click the green +Add link to customize your scheduled time and date settings.
  1. To save your settings, click the Apply button and confirm your action in the pop-up window.

TVU RPS perfectly synchronizes live video feeds from the venue and sends them to your studio for frame-accurate, genlocked live production. RPS live multi-channel synchronization works as a remote production encoder and decoder.

Within one single rack unit encoder at the venue and one rack unit decoder at the studio, you can connect up to eight live video feeds, sending up to six live Full HD transmissions with two high-quality video return feeds.

With TVU Remote Production System (RPS) and TVU Timelock, you can produce a professional quality video from up to six channels from the comfort of your facility, regardless of your network connection or whether your cameras are fixed or on the move.

Product overview

TVU RPS consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The RPS transmitter encodes up to six synchronized SDI sources. It transmits high-quality, low-latency IP video from the remote location to a studio-based TVU RPS receiver, which decodes six accurately synchronized SDI outputs. RPS’s user-friendly interface grants control over all aspects of transmission, including bitrate and latency, and provides previews of all four channels with the Duo 2 card and all six channels with the Quad 2 card.

TVU RPS also provides up to two low-latency return video feeds sent from the studio back out to the field. VLAN tunnels on RPS decoders enable communication between the studio and the field over a private network.

After the unit is set up and powered on, monitoring and control of the system is performed with the TVU RPS Web interface which is hosted on the encoder. This interface is also accessible through the Command Center user interface.

You will use the TVU RPS Web interface to monitor and control all aspects of transmission, including real-time previews, current bitrate, and latency of all four channels with the Duo 2 card and all six channels with the Quad 2 card.

Network requirements

TVU Networks® recommends that you assign a static IP address to the RPS decoder to ensure the network configuration remains stable.

Important: Contact TVU Networks support if you want to use a configuration other than the one specified in the this hardware set up guide.

Router and firewall configuration

Router and firewall configuration

Complete the following steps to configure your router or firewall:

  1. Permit all UDP incoming traffic for port 10001 at the receiver (video).
  2. Permit both TCP and UDP incoming traffic for port 10010.
  3. Permit TCP incoming traffic for port 10009.
  4. Permit all UDP incoming traffic for port 6532 at the receiver (VLAN Tunnel).
  5. For VoIP services, permit outbound traffic to ports 9001, 9091.
  6. TVU recommends using a public IP address for the encoder. If a public IP address is not possible on the encoder side, you must open and forward port 80 (TCP) to access the web GUI remotely.
  7. Depending on the selected bitrate, encoding streams may require as much as 15 Mbps for each stream. TVU recommends having at least 100 Mbps of bandwidth when using 6 streams. If less bandwidth is available, lower the encoding bitrate (using the encoder web GUI) or reduce the number of channels. TVU Networks also has solutions to aggregate multiple IP connections to provide increased throughput. Please contact TVU for further information.

The following procedure provides the steps necessary to identify and perform the initial setup for the RPS encoder with the 6-channel Quad 2 card.

Note: If your RPS server is using the 4 channel Duo 2 card refer to “Hardware configuration options.”

Complete the following steps to setup the TVU RPS VS3500 transmitter (encoder):

Note: All input sources must be the same video format and frame rate.

  1. Connect the factory-supplied power cable to the encoder.
  2. Connect a monitor to the encoder using the HDMI or VGA connections.

  1. IP Addresses can be static or dynamically assigned (DHCP), and can be assigned to interface Eth0 which is used for primary RPS functionality, or assigned to Eth1, which is used for the VLAN tunnel.
  2. The physical ports Lan1 / Lan2 and logical designations Eth0 and Eth1, are reversed:
    LAN2 = Eth0. Primary communications
    LAN1=Eth1. VLAN tunnel functionality

To set up an internet connection for the encoder using a DHCP or static IP method, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Set IP pane, use the default interface setting ‘Eth0’ and ‘IP Method’ if you use DHCP. Click the Refresh button in the Set IP pane. The IP address, Mask, and Gateway fields should automatically populate.

  1. If you are using a static IP address, click the IP Method drop-down menu and select Static. Then, enter your desired IP address, Mask and Gateway.
  2. Click Apply to save your settings.
VLAN and VoIP configuration

VLAN Tunnel configuration overview

By default, VLAN configuration automatically populates. In addition, the VLAN tunnel is designed to be a “set it and forget it” network between the encoder and decoder and distributes IP address accordingly using DHCP.

If the user would like to perform an advanced VLAN configuration, the VLAN tunnel settings can be used to network several devices that are connected to an encoder by using a local switch, or to view the encoder Web UI from the decoder network. The VLAN Tunnel supports IP Intercom, IP Tally, or CCU.

Subnet rules:

The IP addresses assigned to eth1 for each side of the VLAN tunnel must be on different subnets. The VLAN tunnel routes between networks.

For example:

  • For the encoder, use: 10.20.0.1/255.255.255.0
  • For the decoder, use: 10.30.0.1/255.255.255.0

VLAN Tunnel configuration

The VLAN Tunnel setting pane is used to configure the VLAN tunnel functionality by inputting the IP address of the decoder, port and bandwidth limit (optional). The port is associated with 6532 by default and can be changed if desired. Refer to the latest TVU port forwarding guidelines for more information.

To change the VLAN tunnel (Router) settings, enter your change(s) in the VLAN tunnel pane and click Apply.

VoIP configuration

The VoIP settings pane allows the user to enter the PID of the decoder into the encoder’s VoIP settings pane to establish communication between the encoder and decoder.

To configure VoIP complete the following steps:

  1. In the VoIP pane, enter the full PID number of the encoder.
  2. Click the speaker icon to initiate the call.

TVU VLAN Tunnel Switch mode

The VLAN Tunnel Switch mode:

  • Provides support for TVU Switch via VLAN Tunnel (Layer 2 connectivity)- User can now switch between standard VLAN tunnel and TVU Switch-based VLAN tunnel.
  • Without network configuration, remote networking devices become true plug-and-play devices using TVU Switch. This allows the DHCP connectivity to work with any device when connected to the TVU Encoder or Decoder.

To configure VLAN Switch mode on the Encoder (router client):

  1. Open to the Encoder setup page. In the VLAN Tunnel panel select Switch from the Tunnel Mode drop-down menu.
  2. Enter the Remote IP Address of the Decoder.
  3. Leave the Remote Port set to the default 6532 and click Apply.
  4. In the Set IP panel, allow the VLAN IP, Mask, and Gateway defaults as shown in the following “Encoder (router client) configuration” figure.

To configure VLAN Switch mode on Decoder (router server):

  1. Open the Decoder setup page.
  2. Select Switch from the Tunnel Mode drop-down menu in the VLAN Tunnel panel and click Apply.
  3. In the Set IP panel, assign the required VLAN IP, Mask, and Gateway as per your requirement and click Apply.
  4. In the Set IP panel, allow the VLAN IP, Mask, and Gateway defaults as shown in the following “Decoder (router server) configuration” figure.

The Local DHCP client list in “Decoder (router server) displays the IP/MAC address of the clients connected to the Encoder and Decoder VLAN port.

Dual live decoder support

Using this method, the user can push the RPS Encoder streams to both Decoder 1 and Decoder 2 or Producer and Decoder 2.

When using TVU Producer, the user needs to select the check box next to TVU Producer which will prompt the user to add the login and password for a producer VM session.

To support two live decoders simultaneously, complete the following steps:

  1. In the RPS user interface Decoder 2 IP Address settings panel, click the checkbox as shown in “Enable dual live decoder settings.”

  1. Enter the Decoder 2 IP address and port number.
  2. Click Apply.

Closed Caption support

There is no specific setting in the RPS user interface for Closed Captions. The user must connect the closed caption source to the Encoder and Decoder to output the CC video in the output.

The NTP configuration panel allows users to configure the encoder and decoder as local NTP servers in a closed network. If you are using RPS in a closed network without internet access, you must use the “Customized” setting for NTP configuration.

To configure NTP, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Mode drop-down menu in the NTP Config pane and select a mode.
  2. To customize the NTP Configuration mode, select Customized from the drop-down menu. Then, enter the Server IP address of the decoder and leave the Port number 123.

The Output video setting panel allows a user to select the output resolution and framerate of all of the channels that are coming from the encoder.

In the Output Video format pane, select a Video format from the drop-down menu and click Apply.

The LCD display modules use USB for both their communication and power supply. RPS 4-channel Web interface overview

The RPS v6.3 4-channel configuration uses the same TVU VS3500 server with the Duo 2 card in place of the standard Quad 2 card. The hardware is the same as our standard TVU RPS Transceiver which comes with the Duo 2 card as described in “Rear panel overview” on page 3.

When a Duo 2 card is detected on the system, the main Web interface shows 4 previews instead of the standard 6 previews. The previews for 4-channel configuration are much larger than the standard 6-channel version as shown in the following figures.

Port mapping 4-channel Duo 2 card

The port mapping for the RPS v6.3 4-channel configuration is from left to right. The leftmost port is the reference port, and to its right are port 1, port 2, port 3, and port 4. The reference port is used for genlock. Port 1 is for primary channel 1, port 2 is for primary channel 2, port 3 is for primary channel 3 or return video feed 1, and port 4 is for primary channel 4 or return video feed 2.

Port 3 and port 4 can either be used as the primary channel or return feed. You cannot use the primary and return feed at the same time as there is no separate dedicated port for return feed as with the 6-channel version for the Quad 2 card (where port 7 and 8 are for the return feed).

TVU RPS Link is a complete and versatile IP video solution designed specifically for REMI production. TVU RPS Link combines the TVU RPS encoder and TVU Rack Router into a single package for REMI production over aggregated wired or wireless connections.

Introduction, setup, and base operation

Chapter 1 – Introduction, setup, and base operation

The RPS Link is an IS+ encoder in a 2RU rack-mount form factor. The RPS Link provides the same primary performance and features as the standard 4 or 6-channel RPS encoder and includes onboard Wifi and a Hotspot with external antennas. The RPS Link functional status can be viewed from the front panel LCD, and you can access the six SIM card slots from the front panel. The RPS Link works seamlessly with the standard RPS decoder and is fully compatible with the TVU Cloud ecosystem.

Product overview

The RPS Link transmitter encodes up to six synchronized SDI sources. It transmits high-quality, low-latency IP video from the remote location to a studio-based TVU RPS receiver, which decodes six accurately synchronized SDI outputs. The user-friendly RPS Link interface grants control over all aspects of transmission, including bitrate and latency, and provides previews of all four channels with the Duo 2 card and all six channels with the Quad 2 card. Channel and slot operations can be monitored by using the Encoder Channel Monitor and Slot Monitor tabs in the top panel of the RPS Link user interface.

Before you begin

Complete the procedures in the TVU RPS Link Hardware Set Up Guide to set up the TVU RPS Link transmitter (encoder) and VS3500 receiver (decoder) hardware.

Logging in to the TVU RPS Link Web interface

After the unit is set up and powered on, monitoring and control of the system are performed with the TVU RPS Link Web interface, which is hosted on the encoder. This interface is also accessible through the Command Center user interface.

To log in to the TVU RPS Link Web interface, have your encoder static IP address available and complete the following procedure.

  1. Open a Web browser window and enter:

  1. Click Enter. The login pop-up displays.

Access the RPS Link via Command Center

Accessing the TVU RPS Link Web interface using Command Center

The RPS Link user interface can be added to your Command Center account and accessed from within Command Center. With the Command Center interface, a user can control transmission virtually anywhere.

To access the TVU RPS Link Web interface using Command Center, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to Command Center, click the services navigation icon, and select RPS.

Configuring the encoder and decoder

The TVU RPS Link Web interface allows users to configure the TVU RPS Link encoder and RPS decoder. You can use the following procedures to configure the encoder and decoder.

The encoder and decoder setup pages display slightly different information. However, they accomplish the same goals and are accessible using an HDMI out connection, VGA connection, or a web browser. After the RPS VS3500 decoder is powered on and the splash screen briefly appears, the decoder server settings screen displays.

You will use the TVU RPS Web interface to monitor and control all aspects of transmission, including real-time previews of all six channels, current bitrate, and latency.

Complete the remaining steps to configure the TVU RPS Link encoder settings using the RPS Link Web interface:

  1. Access the encoder Web interface and click Settings in the upper right pane of the RPS Web interface.
  2. Click the Encoder tab at the top of the screen.

The Encoder settings window displays. The Encoder settings screen includes three tabs in the top navigation to access the Encoder settings, Network settings, and Firmware upgrade screens.

Establishing an Internet connection

Notes:

  1. IP Addresses can be static or DHCP and assigned to interface eth0, which is used for primary RPS functionality, or assigned to eth1, which is used for the VLAN tunnel.
  2. The physical ports Lan1 / Lan2 and logical designations Eth0 and Eth1, are reversed:
    LAN2 = Eth0. Primary communications
    LAN1=Eth1. VLAN tunnel functionality

To set up an internet connection for the encoder using a DHCP or static IP method, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Network tab. Use the default interface setting ‘Eth0’ and ‘IP Method’ in the Ethernet panel if you use DHCP.
  2. The IP address, Mask, and Gateway fields should automatically populate. Click the Apply button to save your settings.

  1. If you use a static IP address, click the IP Method drop-down menu and select Static. Enter your desired IP address, Mask, and Gateway.
  2. Click Apply to save your settings.

VLAN Tunnel configuration overview

By default, VLAN configuration automatically populates. In addition, the VLAN tunnel is designed to be a “set it and forget it” network between the encoder and decoder and distributes IP addresses accordingly using DHCP.

If the user would like to perform an advanced VLAN configuration, the VLAN tunnel settings can be used to network several devices connected to an encoder by using a local switch or to view the encoder Web UI from the decoder network. The VLAN Tunnel supports IP Intercom, IP Tally, or CCU.

Subnet rules:

The IP addresses assigned to eth1 for each side of the VLAN tunnel must be on different subnets. The VLAN tunnel routes between networks.

For example:

  • For the encoder, use: 192.168.100.1/255.255.255.0
  • For the decoder, use: 192.168.101.1/255.255.255.0

The VLAN Tunnel setting pane configures the VLAN tunnel functionality by inputting the IP address of the decoder, port, and bandwidth limit (optional). The port is associated with 6532 by default and can be changed if desired. Refer to the TVU port forwarding guidelines for more information.

To change the VLAN tunnel (Router) settings, enter your change(s) in the VLAN tunnel pane and click Apply.

VoIP configuration

The VoIP settings pane allows the user to enter the PID of the decoder into the encoder’s VoIP settings pane to establish communication between the encoder and decoder.

To configure VoIP complete the following steps:

  1. In the VoIP pane, enter the full PID number of the encoder.
  2. Click the speaker icon to initiate the call.

Private Network configuration

Private Network configuration

The Private Network configuration panel allows the user to enable the encoder and decoder as a private network.

To configure a private network, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Encoder tab.
  2. Click the Status drop-down menu in the Private Network Config pane and select Enable.
  3. Point the server to the Decoder by replacing 127.0.0.1 with the Decoder IP address.

Output video format

The Output video setting panel allows users to select the output resolution and framerate of all channels from the encoder.

In the Output Video format pane, select a Video format from the drop-down menu and click Apply.

Users can monitor video input formats and status in the Command Center RPS GUI. Click the Encoder tab to view the status pane. The GUI would show the format of each video input on the Encoder and the received video format for the Return Video.

Open the TVU RPS Link Web interface to configure the encoder settings.

Edit the bitrate and delay

To edit the bitrate and delay settings, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Global Bitrate Value check box in the RPS Web interface.
  2. Enter your preferred Bitrate (kbps) value in the provided field and click Apply.

  1. To select a bitrate control, click the Bitrate Control VBR drop-down menu to select a value:
  • VBR + Average Priority (is the preferred default average priority)
  • VBR + Channel Priority (is the preferred channel priority)
  • CBR (is a fixed or constant bitrate variable)

Editing the CODEC

The H.264 and HEVC (H.265) options allow users to select the preferred CODEC. HEVC allows better throughput with a lower bitrate setting.

To edit the CODEC setting, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the drop-down menu and select H.264 or HEVC from the menu.
  2. Click the drop-down menu and select CBR or VBR from the menu.
  3. Click Apply.

Save, load, and delete profile features

The Load profile feature in the Encoder panel allows users to save encoder profiles for later use. For example, if an encoder is moved from one location to another, the encoder profile settings can be recalled and applied to that specific location.

To save an encoder profile, complete the following steps:

  1. Enter your settings in the Encoder pane and click Apply for each change.
  2. Enter a Setting name in the Save setting field on the window’s bottom right side. Then, click the Save Setting button.

  1. To load a saved profile, click the Load profile drop-down menu in the Encoder panel and select a saved profile.

Autolive function

If an encoder or decoder is powered off when live, when that encoder powers on again, it will automatically go live with the last receiver it had been live with.

If there is no network connection on the encoder, the status will display as OFFLINE.

Status indicators are as follows:

  • If the encoder is online, the status will display “Standby” in green.
  • If the set decoder is connected (and ports are open) to the encoder, the status will remain green but display “Online.”
  • A red LIVE status would only appear if a decoder successfully receives the signal.
  • If a video input is unplugged during live transmission, that channel will be green and display “Online.”

In the Decoder panel of the RPS Web interface, a user can encode to a single decoder. A user can also encode two separate decoders simultaneously. Encoding to 2 decoders allows users to create 2 independent programs using the same sources.

Set the decoder 1 IP address

To set the decoder IP address, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Decoder 1 IP address IP field, enter your primary decoder’s static IP address, source name, or PID.

  1. Enter your first port number in the First Port field. The port range default is 10001. You will need 10 ports maximum in a sequence if you want to use another port range.

For example, a new port range would be:
20081-20091 (input would start at port 20081)

IP and port changes are not editable when in live mode.

  1. Click Apply.

Set the decoder 2 IP address

  1. Enter the Decoder 2 IP address IP field to encode to a secondary decoder. Enter the static IP address, source name, or PID.

  1. Enter your first port number in the First Port field. The port range default is 10001. You will need 10 ports maximum in a sequence if you want to use another port range.
  2. Click the checkbox to enable the decoder.
  3. Click Apply.

Note: both transmissions are unicast to the individual decoder. Extra bandwidth is required to support two outbound transmissions.

The status indicator LEDs in the Decoder panel indicate the connection status between the encoder and decoder. The status indicators are as follows:

  • Green – operational and connected
  • Red – offline, or the port is not open

Transmitting to TVU Producer

The RPS to Producer function allows a user to pair four channels of an RPS encoder with TVU Producer. Channels 1-6 are supported and only support 2-channel audio. The encoder is dedicated to transmitting only to TVU Producer and cannot transmit to a second decoder. Please note that when transmitting to TVU Producer, the output will be in CBR mode of Channels 1 to 6 with 2-channel audio.

When a user selects Producer in the Decoder section, the Decoder 1 and 2 options are unavailable and displayed as grayed out. The user is also provided a pop-up window to add their TVU Producer account.

Return Video

In the Return video panel, you can select where the return video feeds come from when using 2 decoders.

  1. Click the decoder drop-down menu to select a decoder.

  1. To initiate a return video transmission, connect one or two SDI inputs to ports 7 and 8 on the rear panel of the decoder. Then connect one or two SDI inputs to ports 7 and 8 on the rear panel of the encoder.

The encoder to decoder “Return Video” port settings 1 and 2 must be synchronized, for example:

  • (1) Port 7 (encoder) to the decoder (port 7)
  • (2) Port 8 (encoder) to the decoder (port 8)

Complete the following steps to route the video to the decoder to enable the field to see what is being transmitted.

  1. Disable a station video feed in the Return Video pane to enable a preview. The example shows port (2) offline.

  1. To enable a bitrate change, check the bitrate check box.

The bitrate can be changed during a live preview.
IMPORTANT: 6 Main transmissions are possible when using 2 Return Video Feeds with 1080i.

To start a transmission, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Channel Monitor tab. In the Encode Channel Monitor pane, click Start.

  1. You can mouse over the upper left field and rename your channel.

  1. To change the individual channel bitrate, uncheck the bitrate check box. Make the bitrate change and click Save.
  2. To choose 16-channel audio, select the 16-channel audio check box. Then, click Save.

  1. To move your transmission into the Live mode, Click the “Main” Start button. When your production is Live, the Preview window will indicate Live mode in red, and the “Main” button will display “Stop.”

Video preview rules

Typically, active preview configurations are: 6 main + 0 previews, 5 main + 1 preview, and 4 main + 4 previews.
It is possible to run 6 channels, 6 previews and 2 return feeds simultaneously (up to 1080i).

  1. If all six sources are active, click the Main Stop button to stop a source. Then, click the Preview Start button to view a new Preview.

To enable or disable the return video feed, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Stop All to stop all of the primary transmission channels.

If the user tries to enable or disable return video while the primary transmission is still live, the warning message “To change RVF settings, please stop live first” displays.

  1. Once the primary live transmission is stopped, the operator can enable or disable the return video feeds as needed.
  2. To resume the live primary transmission, click Start All or Start under the Main tab for the individual primary channel.

The following figure shows 2 primary channels and 2 return live video feeds where channels 1 and 2 are primary and 3 and 4 are return feeds.

If the operator is using 2 primary channels and 2 returns and decides to turn ON the primary transmission again on channels 3 and 4, the operator must complete the following steps:

  1. Click Stop All. Then, disable the return video feed by unchecking the box under the RETURN VIDEO section.
  2. Click Start All.

The message displays “To enable this channel (channel 3), disable Return Video 1” and “To enable this channel (channel 4), disable Return Video 2,” as shown in the following figures.

If the operator uses the return video feed, the SDI IN cables must be removed and replaced with the SDI OUT cables on ports 3 and 4 for both the encoder and decoder.

If the encoder receives SDI video input on ports 3 and 4, the operator must remove the SDI video input cables and connect them to ports 3 and 4 on the decoder.

The SDI out cables connected to ports 3 and 4 on the decoder must be removed and connected to ports 3 and 4 on the encoder to view the return video feed on the SDI monitor.

Use WebRTC for web GUI preview

The RPS Link 4-channel configuration also supports WebRTC for a web GUI preview where the latency for preview is as low as 200 ms.

Low Latency mode for fixed lines

The RPS Link 4-channel configuration supports a low latency mode of up to 0.6 seconds between the encoder and decoder for closed and open networks.

Note: This feature should be possible for both 4 and 6 channel versions.

TVU RPS Link is a complete and versatile IP video solution designed specifically for REMI production. TVU RPS Link combines the TVU RPS encoder and TVU Rack Router into a single package for REMI production over aggregated wired or wireless connections.

Introduction, setup, and base operation

Chapter 1 – Introduction, setup, and base operation

The RPS Link is an IS+ encoder in a 2RU rack-mount form factor. The RPS Link provides the same primary performance and features as the standard 4 or 6-channel RPS encoder and includes onboard Wifi and a Hotspot with external antennas. The RPS Link functional status can be viewed from the front panel LCD, and you can access the six SIM card slots from the front panel. The RPS Link works seamlessly with the standard RPS decoder and is fully compatible with the TVU Cloud ecosystem.

Product overview

The RPS Link transmitter encodes up to six synchronized SDI sources. It transmits high-quality, low-latency IP video from the remote location to a studio-based TVU RPS receiver, which decodes six accurately synchronized SDI outputs. The user-friendly RPS Link interface grants control over all aspects of transmission, including bitrate and latency, and provides previews of all four channels with the Duo 2 card and all six channels with the Quad 2 card.

TVU RPS Link provides up to two low-latency return video feeds from the studio to the field. VLAN tunnels on RPS decoders enable communication between the studio and the field over a private network.

After the unit is set up and powered on, monitoring and control of the system is performed with the TVU RPS Link Web interface, which is hosted on the encoder. This interface is also accessible through the Command Center user interface.

You will use the TVU RPS MLink Web interface to monitor and control all aspects of transmission, including real-time previews of all four channels with the Duo 2 card and all six channels with the Quad 2 card, current bitrate, and latency.

Network requirements and configuration

Network requirements

TVU Networks® recommends that you assign a static IP address to the RPS decoder to ensure the network configuration remains stable.

Contact TVU Networks support if you want to use a configuration other than the one specified in the this hardware set up guide.

Router and firewall configuration

Complete the following steps to configure your router or firewall:

  1. Permit all UDP incoming traffic for port 10001 at the receiver (video).
  2. Permit both TCP and UDP incoming traffic for port 10010.
  3. Permit TCP incoming traffic for port 10009.
  4. Permit all UDP incoming traffic for port 6532 at the receiver (VLAN Tunnel).
  5. For VoIP services, permit outbound traffic to ports 9001, 9091.

Setup and configuration guide

This setup guide provides instructions to complete the following procedures:

  • Setting up the TVU RPS Link encoder and RPS decoder
  • Setting up the RPS Link encoder IP address
  • Configuring the RPS Link encoder and RPS decoder ports
  • Connecting WiFi and dome antennas.
  • Front panel controls and operations
  • Logging in to the RPS Link Web interface
  • Configuring the RPS Link encoder and RPS decoder using the RPS Web interface.

Setting up the RPS Link encoder

Complete the following instructions to set up the RPS Link encoder and RPS decoder hardware.

Note: Refer to the port numbers printed on the adapter card when attaching the BNC cables, as the adapter may be oriented differently in the TE5700 chassis.

RPS Link (encoder) identification and setup procedure

The following procedure provides the steps necessary to identify and perform the initial setup for the RPS Link encoder with the 6-channel Quad 2 card.

If your RPS Link is using the 4-channel Duo 2 card refer to “Hardware configuration options” for set up information.

Complete the following steps to set up the TVU RPS Link transmitter (encoder):

All input sources must be the same video format and frame rate.

  1. Connect the factory-supplied AC power cable(s) to the RPS Link hot-swap power supplies and AC power source.
  2. Connect a computer display connector to the rear panel display or HDMI output port to view real-time system status.
  3. Connect a VLAN cable to the LAN1 GbE Ethernet port for VLAN connectivity on the rear panel.
  4. Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN2 GbE Ethernet port for outbound connectivity on the rear panel.
  5. TVU IFB and VoIP service are provided using the USB audio box connected to the receiver. Connect your audio equipment as appropriate.

  1. Connect a keyboard and mouse to the encoder using the two front or rear panel USB ports.

  1. Connect a factory-supplied 2.3 DIN to BNC male adapter cable to the decoder reference (Ref) input port.

Note: The RPS Link Quad2 card is installed in the upside down position starting with port 8 on the left side of the card.

  1. Starting with port 6, connect 6 to 1 SD/HD-SDI video output sources to ports 1 to 6. Use the factory-supplied 2.3 DIN to BNC male adapter cables.

  1. Connect SD/HD-SDI return video sources to ports 7 and 8, starting with port 8 for the return video. Use the factory-supplied 2.3 DIN to BNC male adapter cables.

  1. If required, connect WiFi MIMO antennas to the top left WiFi connectors to support the MIMO mode configuration for LTE downloading (does not support uploading.)
  2. Connect the antenna connector to the modem connection on the rear panel:
  • 3 LTE dome antennas that use two modem ports each. One antenna supports 2 modems and should be installed at least 20 centimeters apart.
  • 5G modem antennas (one per modem) with four connectors. Each 5G antenna connects to a single modem port. The 5G antenna should be installed at least 20 centimeters apart.

Powering the RPS Link on and off

Complete the following steps to power on/off and restart the RPS Link transmitter:

  1. To power on the RPS Link, press the power button in the front panel’s left lower section. The name and PID number of the unit displays on the RPS Link LCD screen during boot-up.
  2. To power off the RPS Link, press and hold the power button down for more than four seconds.

Note: The RPS Link will automatically restart if the power button is pressed and held in for less than four seconds.

The front panel’s LCD and button functionality is not currently supported.

Complete the following steps to set up the TVU RPS VS3500 receiver (decoder):

  1. Connect the factory-supplied power cable to the decoder.
  2. Connect a monitor to the encoder using the HDMI or VGA connections.
  3. Connect the VLAN cable to the VLAN 1 port for VLAN tunnel support. Ports marked “LAN1” (the left port) are later encoder models.
  4. Connect an Ethernet cable to the following Ethernet port:
  • LAN2 (second from left) is for a standard Ethernet connection.

  1. Verify that the encoder and decoder are connected as described in the encoder and decoder setup procedures. Then, power on both units.

During boot-up, the “RPS Decoder” and “RPS Link Encoder” Web interfaces display on their respective monitors.

The encoder and decoder setup pages display slightly different information. However, they accomplish the same goals and are accessible using an HDMI out connection, VGA connection, or a web browser. After the encoder is powered on and the splash screen briefly appears, the encoder server settings screen displays.

You will use the TVU RPS Web interface to monitor and control all aspects of transmission, including real-time previews of all six channels, current bitrate, and latency. The RPS Web interface includes three tabs in the top navigation to access the Encoder settings, Network settings, and Firmware upgrade screens.

Establishing an Internet connection

Notes:

  1. IP Addresses can be static or DHCP and assigned to interface
    eth0, which is used for primary RPS functionality, or assigned to eth1, which is used for the VLAN tunnel.
  2. The physical ports Lan1 / Lan2 and logical designations Eth0
    and Eth1, are reversed:
    LAN2 = Eth0. Primary communications
    LAN1=Eth1. VLAN tunnel functionality

To set up an internet connection for the encoder using a DHCP or static IP method, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Encoder tab. In the Ethernet pane, use the default slot ID ‘Eth0’.
  2. IP Method dropdown options are Static or DHCP. The IP Address, Mask, and Gateway fields should automatically populate if DHCP is selected.
  3. The IP address, Mask, and Gateway fields should automatically populate. Click the Apply button to save your settings.

  1. If you use a static IP address, click the IP Method drop-down menu and select Static. Enter your desired IP address, Mask, and Gateway.
  2. Click Apply to save your settings.
Private Network configuration

The Private Network configuration panel allows the user to enable the encoder and decoder as a private network.

To configure a private network, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Encoder tab.
  2. Click the Status drop-down menu in the Private Network Config pane and select Enable.
  3. Point the server to the Decoder by replacing 127.0.0.1 with the Decoder IP address.

VLAN Tunnel, VoIP, and Output configurations

VLAN Tunnel configuration overview

By default, VLAN configuration automatically populates. In addition, the VLAN tunnel is designed to be a “set it and forget it” network between the encoder and decoder and distributes IP addresses accordingly using DHCP.

If the user would like to perform an advanced VLAN configuration, the VLAN tunnel settings can be used to network several devices connected to an encoder by using a local switch or to view the encoder Web UI from the decoder network. The VLAN Tunnel supports IP Intercom, IP Tally, or CCU.

Subnet rules:

The IP addresses assigned to eth1 for each side of the VLAN tunnel must be on different subnets. The VLAN tunnel routes between networks.

For example:

  • For the encoder, use: 192.168.100.1/255.255.255.0
  • For the decoder, use: 192.168.101.1/255.255.255.0

VLAN Tunnel configuration

The VLAN Tunnel setting pane configures the VLAN tunnel functionality by inputting the IP address of the decoder, port, and bandwidth limit (optional). The port is associated with 6532 by default and can be changed if desired. Refer to the TVU port forwarding guidelines for more information.

To change the VLAN tunnel (Router) settings, enter your change(s) in the VLAN tunnel pane and click Apply.

VoIP configuration

The VoIP settings pane allows the user to enter the PID of the decoder into the encoder’s VoIP settings pane to establish communication between the encoder and decoder.

To configure VoIP complete the following steps:

  1. In the VoIP pane, enter the full PID number of the encoder.
  2. Click the speaker icon to initiate the call.

Output video format

The Output video setting panel allows a user to select the output resolution and framerate of all channels coming from the encoder.

In the Output Video format pane, select a Video format from the drop-down menu and click Apply.

Establishing an Internet connection

Notes:

The decoder IP address cannot be changed when VFB is enabled.

To set up an internet connection for the decoder, complete the following steps:

  1. If you use DHCP, click the Refresh button in the Set IP pane. The IP address, Mask, and Gateway fields should automatically populate.

  1. If you use a static IP address, click the IP Method drop-down menu and select Static. Then, enter your desired IP address, Mask and Gateway.
  2. Click Apply to save your settings.

To log in to the TVU RPS Link Web interface, have your encoder static IP address available and complete the following steps:

Hardware configuration options

There are two hardware configurations for the RPS Link encoder described as follows:

RPS 4-channel Duo 2 PCI Express card

The Duo 2 PCI Express, capture and playback card features 4 independent 3G-SDI connections. The card supports SDI formats in SD and HD up to 1080p60 with the flexibility of 4 separate capture or playback cards in one.

Connections:

  • SDI Video Inputs – 4 x bidirectional 12-bit SD/HD independently configurable as either Input or Output.
  • SDI Video Outputs – 4 x bidirectional 12-bit SD/HD independently configurable as either Input or Output.
  • SDI Audio Inputs – 16 channels embedded in SD and HD.
  • SDI Audio Outputs – 16 channels embedded in SD and HD.
  • Sync Input – Tri-Sync or Black Burst.
  • Server Interface – PCI Express 4 lane generation 2, compatible with 4, 8, and 16 lane PCI Express slots.

The RPS Link encoder 4-channel configuration uses the same Duo 2 card instead of the standard Quad 2 card described in “TVU RPS Link rear panel connections.”

When a Duo 2 card is detected on the system, the main Web interface shows 4 previews instead of the standard 6 previews. The previews for the 4-channel configuration are much larger than the standard 6-channel version, as shown in the following figures.

Port mapping 4-channel Duo 2 card

The port mapping for the RPS Link 4-channel configuration is from left to right. The leftmost port is the reference port, and to its right are Ports 1, 2, 3, and port 4. The reference port is used for Genlock. Port 1 is for primary channel 1, port 2 is for primary channel 2, port 3 is for primary channel 3 or return video feed 1, and port 4 is for primary channel 4 or return video feed 2.

Port 3 and port 4 can either be used as the primary channel or return feed. You cannot use the primary and return feed simultaneously as there is no separate dedicated port for the return feed as with the 6-channel version for the Quad 2 card (where ports 7 and 8 are for the return feed).

TVU Anywhere is a mobile live-streaming app delivering high-quality live transmission for video broadcasting in remote locations. Thousands of mobile journalists and live streamers use TVU Anywhere as their number-one broadcast app for Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, and many other mobile devices.

TVU Anywhere overview

TVU Anywhere allows users to transmit full-HD video from anywhere using cellular bonding technology and HEVC encoding.

TVU Anywhere aggregates your mobile smart device’s 3G/4G/LTE/5G connection and available WiFi for high-definition wireless video transmissions using patented IS+ technology and HEVC encoding.
This provides a high bandwidth connection reducing lags, and giving your live broadcast the highest level of stability when streaming live video from your iPhone, Android, iPad, or any other mobile device.

  • Legacy and Advanced theme: The TVU Anywhere app offers a legacy (standard) and new (advanced) theme with added features. To change themes, open your TVU Anywhere app and press Experience Now to enable the New Theme in the Setting screen.
  • User-friendly interface: Go live, monitor, and control the transmission from an easy-to-use interface. Choose an optimal resolution and frame rate, automatically focus the camera or use the flash for nighttime transmissions. Key status information such as real-time transmission rate and live streaming are provided.
  • Dual camera support: Simultaneous use of the front and rear of a smart mobile device allows a Picture-by-Picture (PBP) or Picture-in-Picture (PIP) transmission.
    Dual Camera is supported on the following Apple devices: iPhone XS, XR, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, and iPad Pro 3rd and 4th generations.
  • Return Video Feed (VFB): The return video feedback feature allows users to view a live feed from the studio or remote location for enhanced participation.

The TVU Anywhere app supports iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows OS. (It’s recommended to use the latest system version.)

The recommended phone models are as follows:

Installing the TVU Anywhere app – Smart mobile device

This section provides the steps to install the TVU Anywhere app on your smart mobile device.

Pairing your device with a TVU receiver

Contact TVU Support at +1.650.440.4812. TVU support will pair your TVU Anywhere app to the receiver receiving your stream.

In addition, TVU Anywhere integrates with the TVU Command Center Token feature. Activating the Token feature allows an administrator to pair with a list of registered receivers using the Command Center user interface.

The TVU Anywhere interface has the following operational controls and functions:

  • Filmstrip icon: Tap the filmstrip icon in the feature bar to open the Alternate source menu. Source selections include Native camera captures, pictures, and external device pairing. Features include PIP, PBP, BGM, and BGM Blur:
    Picture-in-Picture (PIP) icon: The PIP icon allows the user to transmit an overlay on top of their transmission.
    Picture-by-Picture (PBP) icon: The PIP icon allows users to transmit two pictures side-by-side.
    Background manager icon (BGM): The BGM icon displays a subject with a full background.
    Background manager icon (BGM Blur): The BGM icon displays a subject with a blurred background.
  • Upload icon: Click the Plus {+} to upload your video clips or pictures to a receiver.
  • Advanced icon: Use the Advanced icon to access the Setting, Alert, MMA, About, and sign-in feature bar.
    The Setting icon opens the Setting menu that displays Video, Audio, Record, MISC, your device information, and external device configuration and enablement options.
  • VFB icon: The VFB icon allows the user to initiate a return video feedback from a local SDI or Live source.
  • Screen Broadcast icon: Use the Screen Broadcast function to record everything on your screen, including notifications. Enable the Do Not Disturb function to prevent unexpected notifications.
  • Snapshot icon: The camera icon to add a native camera capture to your source menu. This feature allows you to capture an image in Live or Standby mode.
  • Focus: To focus on a specific area of the screen, tap the area, and the camera will refocus in that area of the image.
  • Flash icon: Press this icon to keep your phone flash On if needed.
  • Folding menu (double arrows): Use the folding menu to open the primary operations menu.
  • Select icon: Use the Select icon to select from a list of receivers you are registered to and can be paired with.
  • Scan icon: The scan window opens when the select icon is used. Use the Scan icon to scan the QR code of a receiver you would like to pair with.
  • Record button: The Record video function records in Live or Standby mode.
  • Partyline icon: Press the Partyline icon to join or create a Party.
  • Live button: Press the Stop Icon to Start and Stop the Live video function.
  • Stream button: Use the Stream button to stream live.
  • Front and rear-facing camera icon: Press this icon to switch between front and rear camera perspectives.
  • White balance (WB), Zoom, Light, and Exposure: Use these features to adjust image parameters.
  • Beauty icon: Adjusts the lighting of an object. This feature also enhances a person’s image by reducing facial imperfections.
  • Microphone: Select the desired mic ( embedded mic, earphone mic, or Bluetooth mic)

Latest functions

The latest functions include:

  • Partyline Support:
    – Join a party using a Party ID or create a party and live stream the entire party video to Social Media platforms and other CDNs.
    – Join a party by inputting the party ID.
    – Active TVU Voice (VoIP) with Partyline when the app runs in the background.
    – Prompt allows users to re-enter a Partyline session if exited unintentionally.
    – Global control and Audio matrix.
  • The option to hide the local video preview when VFB takes the full screen.
  • Picture-in-Picture (PIP) with a preloaded picture as background.

Using the TVU Anywhere app

This section provides a quick start overview of using the TVU Anywhere app.

Choose your registered receiver

Complete the following steps to choose a registered receiver:

  1. Launch the TVU Anywhere app.
  2. If you are running the new theme, Press the receiver or scan to pair drop-down menu.
  3. Select the paired receiver from the list.

  1. If you are not running the new theme, a prompt displays to try the new theme. Tap Experience now and restart the app.

  1. To use the legacy theme, Press the Scan icon in the feature bar and follow the prompts to select a receiver.

Selecting and playing recorded video into the stream

Below the menu bar is a grid of 6 boxes. Each box is a placeholder for a selected photo or video which can be added to the live stream.

To add a video for live playout, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the double arrows to open the feature bar.
  2. Press the Film icon.

  1. Make your selection. Press the Back button to change your selection. The selected video will display in Preview mode. When finished, press Done.

  1. To Play a video, tap the video thumbnail once, and it will play into the live stream. At the end of the clip, it will return to the camera feed.

Note: Playing a video will cancel the PIP or PBP setting and the stream will return to the last used primary camera.

  1. To delete a preselected video, press and hold one of the boxes that contain a video thumbnail. A red delete bar will appear.

Standby status indicator

After you have selected your receiver, the status indicator in the top left corner of the screen displays “STANDBY” until you go live with the receiver.

Going Live with a receiver

To take your video live with a receiver, press the red Live button.

Live and Offline status indicators

When you go live with the receiver, the status indicator changes to “LIVE” and displays the receiver you are transmitting to. In addition, the live streaming time and the transmission rate displays at the top-left of the screen. If the status indicator reads OFFLINE, TVU Anywhere is not paired with a TVU receiver, or the TVU receiver is not powered on, and you cannot transmit live video.

Record button

The Record video function can record in Live or Standby mode.

To record in live or Standby mode, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the green Rec button.

When you are recording, the Rec button turns to a green square, and a counter starts at the top left of the screen.

  1. To stop the recording, press the green square. Your recording is saved to your smart device.

Reverse facing camera feature

This feature allows a user to switch between front and rear camera perspectives.

To use the reverse-facing camera feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the reverse camera icon.
  2. Press the reverse camera icon again to return your camera to front-facing mode.

Stream feature

The Stream feature allows users to:

  • Live stream an entire live Partyline video to Social Media platforms and other CDNs.
  • Use a TVU One as a streaming source.

To stream live video, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the Stream icon.

Partyline capability feature

The Producer Partyline capability feature integrates with TVU Anywhere App version 9.0.42 and above. Partyline provides video conferencing capabilities between multiple or remote participants in a live production.

A production initiator sends the TVU Anywhere app user a web link in the field to pair their device to the Partyline session. The Participants can see a return feed on the main screen indicating what is being broadcast.

The Partyline feature allows users to join or create a Partyline session.

Create a Party

To start a party, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the Partyline icon.

  1. Press the Create New Party button and log in to Partyline with your user credentials.

  1. Press the Invite link to copy the code. Send participants the code to join.

Join a Party

To join a Party, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the TVU Anywhere app and press the Partyline icon.
  2. Copy and paste the Partyline URL sent by the host and press Join.

  1. Click the switch button to reverse your cell phone’s front and rear camera views.
  2. Click the camera ON to enable participants to see you. Click the camera OFF if you prefer not to be seen.
  3. Click the Microphone button to control the On and Off function of the microphone. When you click the Microphone button to Off, you are active, and participants cannot hear you.
  4. Horizontally scroll the screen to view more participants.
  5. PIP mode – Click PGM or a participant’s source to enlarge their window. The enlarged picture and your picture displays in PIP mode. Click the screen again to exit PIP mode.

Using the dual-camera feature

The TVU Anywhere Dual camera feature is enabled using the Picture-by-Picture (PBP) or Picture-in-Picture (PIP) modes. These modes allow simultaneous use of the front and rear-facing cameras.

Dual Camera is supported on the following Apple devices: iPhone XS, XR, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max,13, 14/14 Plus/14 Pro/14 Pro Max, and iPad Pro 3rd and 4th generations.

To use this feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the double arrows to open the feature bar.
  2. Press the Filmstrip icon to open the menu.

  1. Place your iPhone in a position to capture the front and rear-facing images.
  2. Press the PBP icon for side-by-side Picture-by-Picture, or the PIP icon to overlay video from the front camera onto the back camera video.

  1. Click away from the menu to return to the main screen.
  2. To move the placement of the PIP image, press and hold the PIP video and drag it to a new position.

Upload feature

You can upload your recorded videos and pictures to a receiver using the Upload feature.

To upload your content to a receiver, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the Upload icon to open the menu.

  1. The Upload screen opens. Press the Plus (+) icon and select Album to upload your video clips or pictures to the paired receiver.

  1. The Rename file option displays. To rename your file, press the name field.
  2. Press the Upload button to upload video clips or pictures to the paired receiver.

Advanced settings

To display the Advanced settings feature bar, tap the Advanced icon.

Use the Advanced icon to access the Setting, Alert, MMA, About, and sign-in feature bar.

  • The Setting icon opens the Setting menu that displays Video, Audio, Record, MISC, your device information, and external device configuration and enablement options.

Return Video Feedback (VFB)

The VFB icon allows the users to initiate a return video feedback from a local SDI or Live source.

To use this feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the VFB icon to open the menu.

Screen Broadcast feature

Use the Screen Broadcast function to record everything on your screen, including notifications.

To use the Screen Broadcast feature:

  1. Open the Setting menu and enable the Do Not Disturb function to prevent unexpected notifications.

Snapshot feature

Use the camera icon to add a native camera capture to your source menu. This feature allows you to capture an image in Live or Standby mode.

To use the Snapshot feature:

  1. Press the Snapshot icon.

  1. The snapshot preview temporarily displays. Press the Snapshot icon again to replace the image if needed.

Flash feature

The flash feature turns on the flash for extra lighting when needed. To use the flash feature, complete the following steps:

  1. To turn on the flash, press the flash icon.
  2. To turn the flash function off, press the flash icon again.

White balance (WB) feature

The WB feature allows a user to adjust the white balance of an image.

To adjust the WB, complete the following steps:

  1. Press WB in the sidebar.
  2. Use the adjustment bars to correct the white balance.
  3. To reset the white balance, press Reset.

Zoom feature

The Zoom feature allows a user to zoom into an image.

To use this feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Press Zoom in the sidebar.
  2. Use the adjustment bar to magnify your image.
  3. To reset the magnification, press Reset.

Light (Brightness) feature

The Light feature allows a user to adjust the brightness of the overall image.

To adjust the brightness, complete the following steps:

  1. Press Light in the sidebar.
  2. Use the adjustment bars to adjust the brightness.
  3. To reset the brightness, press Reset.

Beauty feature

The Beauty feature adjusts and applies a softened filter to the subject. This feature also enhances a person’s image by reducing facial imperfections.

The Beauty feature applies to 720P and 480P settings.

To use this feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Press Beauty in the sidebar.
  2. To adjust the enhancement level, move the bar up to enhance the subject.

MIC feature

The MIC feature allows for the manual selection of the source microphone.

To use this feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Press MIC in the sidebar. The MIC setting bar displays.

Exposure feature

The Exposure feature allows a user to adjust the exposure setting for the content.

To adjust the exposure, complete the following steps:

  1. Press Exposure in the sidebar.
  2. Use the adjustment bar to adjust the exposure setting.
  3. To reset the exposure setting, press Reset.

Chapter 2 – Advanced features

This section explains TVU Anywhere advanced features and how to use them.

Advanced settings

Settings information about your device, video, audio, recording, NTP, IS+, external devices, and DJI can be accessed from the Setting menu.

You should review your settings and enable the features you would like to use by moving the slider to the right until it turns green.

To access the Setting menu:

  1. Press the Advanced icon in the feature bar and press Setting.

To set the resolution and frame rate for your transmission, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Video panel, set the Resolution and Frame Rate that is optimal for the transmission.
  2. Enable or disable any other video related features for the transmission.

  1. Swipe the menu upward to access the Audio, Record, and MISC settings.
  2. To use the Partyline feature, enable the appropriate mic features in the Audio panel.
  • This audio option allows users to use audio capturing for live transmission to a receiver. It can capture only the phone camera, and also mix the IFB (TVU Voice) audio in the capture, or audio that comes from Partyline if Partyline is enabled.
  1. In the Record panel enable the appropriate features.
  • When enabling metadata, it adds metadata information to the recorded videos. It can be helpful for TVU Search or other purposes that require identifying what the video is about.
  1. In the MISC panel, enable the appropriate features.
  2. The Theme setting is automatically set to the theme you have chosen. To change Themes, disable the default setting and follow the prompts.

  2. The About panel provides your device, PID, and UUID information. tap the User Guide link to display an overview of the DJI and professional camera support you can use with TVU Anywhere.

Creating a hotspot connection to a TVU Pack

Complete the following steps to create a hotspot connection to a TVU Pack using the TVU Anywhere app:

  1. Launch the TVU Anywhere app.
  2. Tap the TVU One screen and swipe to the left until you see the QR Code screen.

  1. Press the Scan icon in the TVU Anywhere app. Orient the QR code inside the app’s crop marks and press the Scan icon again.

This feature allows operator-less Live Video Production with Apple Center Stage.

Users can Live stream from their iPad Pro using the built-in hardware and bring quality to a mobile broadcast or live video production.

The Apple Center Stage feature for the iPad Pro with M1 chip, integrated within TVU Anywhere via API, frees on-screen subjects from the constraints of remaining in a fixed position, greatly improving the professionalism of a single-person live video production.

The technology also reacts if an additional subject enters the shot (such as an interviewee) by automatically zooming out to capture the additional subjects and zooming back in again when the interview is completed. No external controls are required to operate Center Stage in TVU Anywhere.

TVU Anywhere DJI integration

This section describes additional TVU Anywhere applications, including:

  • Enabling TVU Anywhere for use with DJI drones and the DJI Osmo handheld camera
  • Using the TVU Token feature
  • Pairing the TVU Anywhere app with a registered receiver using the TVU One QR code menu

Enabling TVU Anywhere for use with DJI drones and the DJI Osmo handheld camera

TVU Anywhere app (version 6.2.4.291 or later) supports the transmission of videos from a DJI drone and Osmo camera. This section introduces the methods for connection, disconnection, and registration. If you have any questions, contact TVU Support at +1.650.440.4812

TVU Anywhere Help External Devices supported

ATTENTION: DJI account registration is required when using a DJI drone in China.

DJI account registration and bound are required when using a DJI Drone in China. Failure to do so will result in the Drone’s video being unable to work with the TVU Anywhere app. You can go to the DJI official China website to register your DJI account using your phone number (do not use your e-mail address) as shown in the “DJI registration example (China).” The account information will be used when the device is active and will bind the DJI device to the TVU Anywhere app.

Using TVU Anywhere with a DJI drone

To use the TVU Anywhere app with the supported DJI drone, complete the following steps:

  1. Download and install the latest version of TVU Anywhere app to your phone.
  2. Turn on the DJI drone and drone controller.

Note: You may test the drone and controller with the DJI Go app.

  1. Connect the USB cable to the iPhone and drone controller. Then, launch the TVU Anywhere app.
  2. Enable the DJI device in the TVU Anywhere app.

Note: Video will automatically switch from the drone to the TVU Anywhere app once enabled. If the screen on the TVU Anywhere app does not display, make sure your DJI device is enabled in the TVU Anywhere app.

  1. If you are operating the DJI drone in China, verify that the DJI account is activated and bound. Click Sign in DJI and enter the account password for binding and activating, as shown below.

Using TVU Anywhere with an Osmo handheld camera

To connect to the Osmo camera, complete the following steps:

  1. Download and install the latest version of the TVU Anywhere app to your phone.
  2. Turn on the Osmo camera.
  3. Enable the WiFi connection on your phone, and then search and connect the WiFi of the Osmo camera.

Note: By default, the WiFi name is prefixed with Osmo, such as OSMO_24c4e4. And the password is 12341234.

  1. After establishing the WiFi connection, run the TVU Anywhere app on your phone.

The TVU Anywhere will use the Osmo camera automatically, and you can use the Osmo camera to record or transmit videos.

Disconnecting TVU Anywhere from the Osmo handheld camera

To disconnect the Osmo camera, complete the following steps:

  1. Close the Osmo camera or disconnect from the Osmo camera WiFi.
  2. When TVU Anywhere detects the disconnection, it automatically switches to the built-in camera.

Using the Partyline feature

How to use the Partyline feature is explained in “Chapter 1 – Introduction, setup, and base operation.”

The Producer Partyline capability feature integrates with TVU Anywhere App version 9.0.42 and above. Partyline provides video conferencing capabilities between multiple or remote participants in a live production. By using the TVU Anywhere App, all participants (or talent personnel) can attend a video conference with each other.

A production initiator sends the TVU Anywhere app user a web link in the field to pair their device to the Partyline session. The Participants can see a return feed on the main screen indicating what is being broadcast.

The Partyline capability feature uses Real-Time Interactive Layer (RTIL) technology to provide video conferencing capabilities for remote live production.

Pairing your device via the Token feature

Before TVU Anywhere can go Live, it must first be paired with one or more receiving devices. These pairings can be created on a self-service basis by utilizing the Token feature.

A Token comes in a numeric or QR code generated by your TVU system administrator and provided to you. Entering this Token code will automatically pair your device with the appropriate TVU output receivers.

Important information about phone settings

When using the TVU Anywhere app, set your phone to the “Do not disturb” mode.

Important: Setting your phone to the “Do not disturb” mode while you are using TVU Anywhere will keep your TVU Anywhere app from closing in the event you receive an incoming call.

Accepting a Token using the TVU Anywhere app

To accept a Token using the TVU Anywhere app, complete the following steps:

  1. Obtain the Token code from your administrator.

  1. To Scan or manually enter the Token code, open your TVU Anywhere app. Then, click the Scan icon in the receiver bar.

Note: There is a limit of 50 devices that can be used for each token QR code. You can accept the Token code using two methods. You may either scan a printed or displayed QR code, or enter the numeric token code manually. The manual method is highly recommended.

  1. The Scan window displays. Enter the phone number and introduction information in the fields at the top of the screen. This step is optional but highly recommended. Press Next.

Affected Scope

All TVU Receivers on which the default password for remote control of the system has not been changed.

Chapter 1 – Introduction, user experience, and behavior

To use the TVU Producer Audio Mixer requires a Producer subscription activation from TVU Support. Before you begin, refer to the TVU Producer System requirements below, then contact TVU Support to obtain your login credentials. TVU Networks recommends logging in to your TVU Producer account using your credentials and familiarizing yourself with the user interface, features, and functions.

TVU Producer Audio Mixer overview

The Audio Mixer is a dedicated interface embedded into the TVU Producer user interface. The Audio Mixer feature is built for audio operators to mix audio for the TVU Producer program separately from the video and graphics operations.

The Audio Mixer interface opens in a separate tab, allowing the individual operator to adjust the volume. The basic functions include adjusting each input source’s volume or fader level and mixing selected audio sources.

The Advanced Audio Mixer Panel allows a Producer user to manage all input levels and master output complemented with remote commentary in real-time. Advanced capabilities serve multiple collaborators or users working to produce a single live show. The operator primarily focuses on using all the advanced capabilities provided in the audio mixer.

System requirements (TVU Producer)

  • A laptop with an i7 processor or above and 16 GB memory, and a minimum screen resolution of 1920 x 1080
  • Internet bandwidth – 32 Mbps (download), 10 Mbps (upload)

Step 1 – Sign up or register for a TVU Producer account

To sign up or register to use TVU Producer, complete the following steps:

  1. Open a Web browser window and enter: https://www.tvunetworks.com/products/tvu-producer/
  2. Click Enter. The TVU Producer landing page displays.

  1. The Sign in page displays. Click Sign Up to create an account.

To start the Producer session, complete the following steps:

Creating a program

To create a program, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Workbench tab, click + Create a Program.

  1. In the Create a program pop-up window, enter a Program name for your production and click Next.

  2. Click the Audio Channel drop-down menu, select 2, 4, 6, or 8 output channels for your Producer project, and click Save.

Basic Audio Mixer functionality

The Basic audio mixer functionality is embedded into the Producer User Interface. Each input source has a dedicated audio speaker icon that enables the operator to view, raise, and lower the volume of the audio channel.

To open the Audio Control panel, click the Audio mixer icon in the left panel.

By default, the audio control is set to AFV – ‘Audio Follow Video’ mode. The audio channel assigned to the specific input video source is taken to the program output or ‘On air.’

The producer operator can switch the ‘Audio Follow Video’ to the OFF position by moving the Audio Control slider to the left, enabling more than one audio channel to be mixed or chosen together to go on air.

To switch to the ‘advanced’ audio mixer functionality, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Audio mixer icon in the left panel. The Audio Control menu displays.

All of the audio mixing controls are available for the event. The audio mixer engineer can work with up to 4 output pairs. Each output pair has a dedicated independent audio panel. Each input source can have up to 4 audio pairs. Each pair can be controlled independently.

Left panel controls:

The Audio Mixer source settings menu displays visible and unavailable sources. In this menu, you can add a description to each source that will display at the bottom of each input source.

The MIDI device menu displays available and connected MIDI devices.

AFV is disabled by default for the remote commentator. All the commentators that join are enabled and mixed to the output pair number 1 by default.

Multi-audio channel feature

This feature supports 2, 4, 6, or 8 embedded output audio channels in Producer. The Audio mix option in Producer allows up to 4 pairs of audio channels to be configured by selecting a number in the Audio Output Pair Control feature in the Audio mix panel. This feature is useful for multi-language outputs.

A user can independently adjust the volume of the audio output channels assigned to each pair. The volume for each pair of output channels can be adjusted or muted using the Master output level control slider in the Audio mix panel.

To set up multiple audio output channels in Producer, complete the following steps:

  1. Select a source in the Producer User Interface and click the Audio Mixer icon in the left panel. The Audio Mixer panel opens.
  2. Click the URL at the bottom of the panel to open the Audio Mixer interface.
  3. At the top-right corner of the interface, locate the “Audio Output Pair Control.” Channel setting number 1 is selected by default.

  1. Click the Left-Right button in the audio source panel to select the audio source channels you would like to pair to setting 1.

Note: Refer to “Advanced Audio Mixer user experience behavior” for information about stereo and dual mono settings.

  1. Adjust the individual source audio settings for channel 1. Then, adjust the Master audio level in the left panel to the desired setting.
  2. Click channel setting 2 and repeat steps 4 and 5, respectively, and so on, to pair up to 4 channels (with a maximum of 8 outputs).
  3. To adjust your audio channel paired settings, click the appropriate Audio Output Pair Control channel number to display your settings.

The following two types of audio sources are supported in the Advanced Audio Mixer interface:

Stereo – Stereo has one channel and includes one fader, pan control, and audio level indicators. When stereo is selected, both left and right indicators illuminate together to indicate one channel.

Dual mono – Dual mono has a left and right channel and includes two fader controls, two pan controls, and two audio level indicators. When dual mono is selected, both left and right indicators illuminate separately to indicate two channels.

The ‘Stereo and Dual-mono channel examples’ figure shows the Stereo and dual mono channels:

  • Source 1 indicates Stereo (one channel)
  • Source 2 shows Dual mono (left and right channels)

The Stereo audio source has only one fader and one balance control (or Pan control), as shown below.

  • The fader level indicator range is from -∞ to +12.
  • Balance control ranges from 0 to 100. The balance is set to 50 (middle).

The Dual-mono audio source has two faders and two pan controls. One fader is for the left channel, and the other is for the right channel. The two channels operate independently.

  • Each channel has an independent fader level indicator showing ranges from -∞ to +12.
  • The pan control slide ranges from 0 to 100. The left pan control setting is 0. The right pan control setting is 100.

The headphone icon allows the operator to monitor a specific audio channel.

Fader level control

The fader level indicators show the appropriate status from the basic mixer. When the Audio Mixer displays for the first time, the fader level indicators must be set to the appropriate volume or gain even though sound monitoring is switched.

This will provide real-time results to the audio operator to ensure all audio channel volumes are correctly working. The operator can then adjust the gains of specific audio channels as desired.

Audio usage indicator and enable/disable functions

The audio usage and enable/disable indicator button at the top of the panel (turns red or grey).

The Audio usage button (one for each channel in the input source) indicates which audio channels are used or enabled.

  • When the audio switch is ON or enabled, it turns red
  • When the audio switch is OFF or disabled, it turns grey

When live sources are switched, the audio usage indicator (in red) is applied to the newly switched input source and the channels. If PIP is enabled on a live source, both these input sources that will program output will indicate usage when their left and right channel indicators turn red.

Note: If AFV is enabled, the audio usage is read-only. Customers cannot enable audio on more than one channel.

Note: If AFV is disabled, the operator can click on the audio usage button to switch between grey (disabled) to red (enabled) or red (enabled) to grey (disabled).

If the customer changes the audio usage on two different channels to Red, those two audio channels will go to program output.

Audio control for quad mode

When the quad mode (input source 7) is selected, it behaves like any other source.

The audio usage indicator is ON for source 7 (and is only lit up for source 7), and whatever the presetting was for its original source still applies.

Monitor level control

The Monitor level control in the audio mixer controls the volume of the Audio Mixer tab in the chrome browser.

Mute control

The Mute control allows the end-user to silence the audio channel completely. This will also silence the channel output audio.

Note: Mute can be used in both use-cases, when AFV is ON or OFF.

When AFV is ON, the user can mute the stereo source channel or both dual-mono source channels. When the mute icon is switched ON for the ‘Source’ chosen to go to Program output, the master volume is also muted.

In the following example, AFV is enabled. Video source 6 is chosen to go to the program output. When both channels are muted for this specific audio source, the master volume is entirely muted on the program output. Group audio is not enabled in the following ‘Use-case example.’

Mute functionality works similarly if AFV is OFF and the Group Audio feature is enabled.

In the use-case example, the user can choose to use the mute functionality associated with the group directly. When using the mute icon associated with Group 1 or Group 2, the user can mute all of the audio sources assigned to Group 1 or Group 2.

The user can also mute one of the audio channels chosen for Group 1, which will only silence that specific audio channel.

The Group Audio functionality is enabled only when AFV is OFF. Users cannot choose groups in AFV mode.

The Group Audio feature enables users to assign audio channels to specific groups. Two groups are supported in the Audio Mixer Panel.

To use the Group Audio feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the Advanced Audio Mixer panel.
  2. Assign each of the desired audio channels in each respective audio source (whether it is a stereo source or dual mono) to group 1 or group 2.
  3. Choose the desired channels and assign them to either group 1 or group 2.

Note: Selecting audio channels for specific groups can be completed initially without enabling the group audio functionality.

  1. To change the Group Audio setting, go to the Group 1 or Group 2 selection in the program output panel. Then, click the ON button in the Audio panel located above Group Audio.

Note: Users can switch either group or both groups simultaneously to manage and control all of the audio channels and sources associated with a specific group.

  1. If desired, a user can dynamically assign new channels to either of the groups.

Note: the ‘ON” Audio Button can be enabled only after assigning at least one audio channel. If the user has not assigned any audio sources to either group, the user cannot switch ON the group audio.

In the following ‘Channel and input source example,’ channel 2 of input source 1 is assigned to Group 2. In addition, the two audio channels of the input source 3 are also assigned to Group 2. The User interface will now allow the user to switch ON the Group 2 control and then reduce the fader levels of all the associated channels using the Group fader controls.

Note: Enabling the group feature will not have any impact on the current master volume functionality.
